On Saturday October 15, 2016 my daughter’s American Heritage Girl Troop and our brother Trail Life Troop had the privilege of thanking veterans who were visiting the National Museum of the Marine Corps as part of an Honor Flight. To say that it was a moving experience doesn’t do justice to the memorable morning we had. I am sure that the young men and women will not soon forget the morning spent honoring those who served. Also, a special thank you to museum volunteer Trish, who made sure we were in the right place and gathered a few Quantico Marines for the big send off. She was absolutely wonderful!
Had the pleasure of going to Cape May, New Jersey for a fun 5k at the Cape May Winery. It was an AWESOME weekend. We took the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. The crossing there was a bit choppy and over cast, but the return trip was absolutely beautiful! While there we ate at three places each very different and very good. Dinner was at the Good Earth Organic Eatery where I had a wonderful gluten free almond pesto pasta, YUM! Breakfast, before the race, was at the Avalon Coffee. Although, this was a bakery joint I was able to get some eggs and sausage which were good. The others said the bagels were outstanding and we all agreed that the coffee was excellent. After the race we sampled the wineries many fine wines before we headed to the beach. While down at the beach we got very hungry and stopped into Zoe’s Beachfront Eatery. I had an extremely good hamburger. The food in Cape May is superb. The people of Cape May are so warm and friendly. and so are the vacationers we met a lovely woman and her therapy dog, a standard poodle named Sigmund Freud. It was an trip not soon forgotten. I have already started planning for a return trip with my family. The charming seaside town of Cape May, NJ is one that should be experienced by all.
A few weeks ago my husband and I had the privilege of being childless on a Saturday. Their grandparents had them overnight. What a lovely twenty-four hours. We had been invited down to friends for a cookout and had a few hours beforehand so we went to the Virginia Museum of Fine Art. This is one of my favorite places. They have a wonderful permanent collection and they get some great exhibits. Here are a few photographs from our day out.

While in Pennsylvania I visited the Monroe County Historical Association’s museum. The association has taken up permanent residence in Stroud Mansion. A beautiful 12 room Georgian-style mansion built in 1795 by Jacob Stroud for his son, John. There is a research library and a rotating exhibit along with the permanent collection. It is an absolute gem. I highly, recommend stopping in if you ever make it to Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Until then here a few of my favorite photos from my visit.
